About
graZnar! is the portfolio and phtotoblog of me, Sam Guzik, a journalist currently studying at the Columbia Journalism School.
Before arriving at Columbia, I served as the director of new media at Student Life Newspaper, the independent paper of Washington University and the oldest paper in Missiouri. In earlier years on the paper, I served as editor in chief, senior news editor, news reporter and staff photographer. Previously, I have worked as a blogger for AOL’s College News Blog, Bright Hall (now called The Cram), and as an intern to the interactive desk of Newsday.com working with the editorial team and with the launch of the paper’s new Web site in July 2009.
As a journalist, I tend to focus on community driven stories that have ramifications on a larger scale, politics and any breaking news that crosses my desk. An avid amateur photographer, I am also interested telling stories using new media—including photo essays, audio slideshows and video.
The title graznar, meaning to quack in Spanish, stems from my attachment to ducks—specifically the rubber kind. The name was thought up during one particularly late night in high school and has stuck since then.
